The Woods Academy Robotics teams traveled to GlenElg Country school on December 6th to compete in their FLL: Robotics Qualifier for a chance to travel to the State finals in March. Both teams, The Owl Bots and The Green Machine, spent a full day presenting their research plans and completing missions based on a series of challenges presented to them at the beginning of the season. The competition focused on three key areas of assessment: Robot Design, Project Research, and Core Values.
The Owl Bots will be returning to the State Finals at UMBC in March and continue the tradition of excellence for The Woods Academy Robotics Team. Since its inception, we have sent at least one team to the State Finals each year.
The Green Machine made a valiant effort, but came up short in the end. They had a lot of fun and gained some valuable experience for next year's competition.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS AFTER THE HOLIDAY!!
Students in grades six through eight at The Woods Academy have an opportunity to be part of the after school robotics teams. The teams compete in the First Lego League (FLL) where they design a robot to complete several mission challenges. Since the 2009-2010 school year, The Woods inaugural robotics season, at least one Woods robotics team has competed at the FLL Maryland State Championship.

The 2014 - 2015 Robotics Team is off and running, and we are all very excited for the upcoming season. This year's challenge is "Think Tank" and each member is responsible for figuring out a way that we can improve learning in a particular area of focus. Team members are also using the new EV3 model from First Lego League, and diligently trying to prepare for our qualifying event in December.
